Unless you’ve been fully sheltered by not one, but many, rocks over the past week or so, you know it’s Olympics time! Homes, offices, and gyms (I guess?) the world over are filled with people all atwitter about who their favorite gymnast is, and whether swimmer Ryan Lochte should have been allowed to wear his American flag grill on the Olympic podium (oh no, I’m serious, it really happened).
For the second installment of So Pinteresting, it seemed only right to highlight some of my favorite Olympic fashion findings. These run the gamut from showy nails to bizarre hats to some pretty cool DIY jewelry. I won’t lie: I love how the Olympics brings the world of Pinterest together in a collective expression of, “Wow, I will never be that athletically inclined ever in my life, but I can totally make a bracelet!” It’s so heartwarming.

Hats Off!
Technically, I think this qualifies as more of a headband than a hat. Like if there was an Olympic competition for hat design, I don’t think this red-headed maven (or whoever created this lovely temple-topper) would be eligible to participate. Which is sort of unfortunate, because it would certainly win! Wouldn’t you wear this? I think it would go really well with the shoe coming up in the next slide...

The Wedge Of Glory
You didn’t really think I’d make a slideshow of Olympic fashion and not include some Union Jack imagery, did you? London deserves its props for thus far being a great host for the games; seeing the Queen “helicopter in” on the arm of James Bond (alongside her ridiculously adorable corgis, of course) pretty much set the tone for the entire thing, don’t you think? I love how these Aruna Seth shoes are bedazzled—because, you know, a wedge paying homage to a national flag isn’t over-the-top enough.

The Turbanator
If I’ve learned anything from The Office, it’s that anything Great Britain can do, we can do better. Same goes for flags. It must be said: I love a turban. Aside from Olympic-logo headbands, I think they’re pretty much the chicest way to accessorize your updo. Some of the most fierce women in history have worn a turban, or a turban approximately—think Cleopatra, Iman, RuPaul—and Lord knows Americana is having its moment in the sun right now. Thusly, this look captures the best of both worlds, and I don’t hate it.

As we learned last week, if there’s one thing Pinners love, it’s nail art. So of course there’s no shortage of talons created in homage to the Olympic spirit. Most of them are (sad to say) not terribly chic, but I don’t hate these. They’re not subtle, but hey, if you’re gonna paint your nails as a shout-out to the Olympic Games, why would you be? I appreciate the thricely-included Union Jack symbol, and the ring-finger stripes drawn to match the logo are also cute.

Uh, this is actually a pretty adorable idea. What patriotic buttons! Apparently Olympic button jewelry is a fairly lucrative trade...

… because the same designer also created this cutie. For those of us who will probably never have a real Olympic medal around our neck, it seems to me a jangly piece of jewelry with lots of tiny medal-like things on it is a decent substitute. And again, we have the Union Jack! Clearly a popular choice with Olympic pinners far and wide.

A New Tape on the Olympic Rings
So this isn’t really a fashion item, but isn’t it so cool? It’s certainly one of the most clever uses of electrical tape I’ve ever seen, and it makes me wish I could wear it, somehow, some way.

...it comes in nude as well! And in the humble opinion of this fashion writer, it's even more fabulous in a neutral palette. This is a complete dream bag, no? It’s not everyday your average Jo can drop three stacks on an accessory, but if that day ever comes for me, you better believe this bag will not be far from my mind.
