So Pinteresting: Beat the Summer Heat, Stay Inside with These Cool DIYs

Is it hot where you are? Strike that — without even knowing from where you hail, we can tell: it's probably pretty dang hot there. Our preferred method of beating the heat on summer's notorious Dog Days is staying as close to the AC as possible. Aside from spending hours reading The Fashion Spot, we head straight to one of our favorite sources of endless inspiration, Pinterest, to see what other types of indoor activities with which we could engage.

With surprisingly simple tutorials for everything from reworked drinkware to surprising uses for plastic cutlery, we've rounded up 10 of the images that are most inspiring us to put down the TV remote (or step away from the keyboard) and pick up a glue gun. Read on for our picks and let us know which ones are encouraging you to get in touch with your more-handy side!

  • Childhood Crafts, Rewired

Remember the papier-mâché crafts of your youth? The folks over at craft blog EmmmyLizzzy sure didn't — heck, they one-upped your old-school craft by making a hanging lamp that is not only beautiful, but also projects gorgeous patterns of light onto your walls once the light within is turned on.

  • Don't Shop Sonia -- Make It!

Sonia Rykiel hit the nose on the head with these limited-edition pearl-encrusted sunglasses. Since those specs retailed for nearly $1K, this easy-peasy DIY edition is so welcome. Though the instructions are in French, we're pretty sure you'll be able to figure out the steps.

  • Say No to Taxidermy, Yes to Wet Newspaper and Paste

Pinterest is on a serious papier-mâché kick, but who could blame pinners? With all these superb DIYs, we are all but running out to grab the necessary supplies. This faux-taxidermy bust is super-cool because you're unlikely to find the real deal in your typical slice-n-stuff shop (though if you ever do, please give us a shout.)

Say No to Taxidermy, Yes to Wet Newspaper and Paste
  • Martha Knows Best

This classic Martha Stewart craft is giving us good reason to buy all the sweet little teacups we typically pass on while thrifting. Fill with wax, add a wick and presto, your own shabby-chic home candlescape.
