OPI is known for its celebrity collaborations, including the bright and wild lines delivered by the likes of Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj. But their newest collaboration had us singing with joy. Mariah Carey, the gal with the most famous high octave note in the music industry, will be collaborating with the nail company to launch not one, but TWO collections next year. It’s only the best for Mariah, which means only the best for us!
As we try to contain our excitement, we can tell you anxious ladies that you won’t have to wait too long for the first collection. This impressive collection will include eight Mariah-inspired shades (swoon!), that will launch in spas, salons, and retailers in January. T he second collection (we LOVE saying that), will launch later in 2013, although the number of shades is still under debate.
As we know, Mariah is not one to sit on the side-lines, and these collections were no exception for the daring diva. According to Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, the executive vice-president and artistic director of OPI, Mariah was very involved in the selection and development of the shades. The vice president also discussed the singer’s attitude towards nails: ‘Nails are a part of her personality,’ says Weiss-Fishmann. ‘I really have always looked for celebrities for whom nails are very important.’ Considering that Mariah herself had enrolled in beauty school at a young age so she ‘could have something to fall back on’ (as if she needed it!), she has long been familiar with the importance of nails and her own personal aesthetic. We would have it no other way.
