DIY: How to Make a Christopher Kane-Inspired Galaxy Shirt

Growing up, I was always a bit of a space geek. I loved space-themed movies, I went to Space Camp, and I am related to Gus Grissom, one of the Original Seven astronauts. When I first saw Christopher Kane's galaxy dress, I was smitten. If there's anything I love more than space-inspired fashion, it is Christopher Kane's punchy prints. Since discovering Kane's galaxy print dresses, I've made my own galaxy dress, galaxy scarf, and now a (admittedly more versatile) galaxy shirt.

You need:

First, fill your clean and empty spray bottle with a bit of bleach (I used an old Windex bottle). Then, spray the bleach onto your cotton shirt in strategic spots. When you have a splattering of bleach, wait for it to start working before you add more. Be careful not to add too much, because if the bleach pools for a long period of time, it can burn a hole through the cotton. Let your shirt dry in the sun and then put it through the washer. Let it dry again.

Next, you can take your Simply Spray fabric paint and lightly spray the edges of your bleached galaxy to give it some depth. If you don't want to buy the fabric paint, you can also use watered-down tie-dye in little spray bottles. It will give the same effect.

And finally, with a little bit of white fabric paint, paint little dots for stars around your shirt and add some star trails.

Dress up your galaxy shirt with some boots and a leather skirt, or dress it down with a pair of jeans and casual sneakers. A little bit of galaxy print is an out-of-this-world way to add another dimension to your wardrobe!
