Whats Your Skin Care IQ?

As the start of the school year nears, we thought it would be a great time to help you get into academic mode with a little skin care IQ test! No matter what your skin type or skin care concerns, your skin will be healthier and more radiant if you know the facts behind some skin care basics. Even if you don't like tests, we promise that this one will be both fun and informative.

1. Which of the following activities does the most damage to your skin?

a. Smoking

b. Sun Tanning

c. Dehydration

Answer: B

While all three of these activities harm your skin significantly, only sun tanning can lead to actual skin diseases. Smoking and dehydration cause unhealthy skin and the advancement of the signs of aging, but sun exposure causes damage to collagen, elastin, melanin and can lead to serious skin diseases.

2. It is important for skin health to do which of the following?

a. Drink eight glasses of water each day

b. Use a daily face mask

c. Eat your water in the form of fruits and vegetables

Answer: C

The most important thing that you can do for the health of your skin is to stay hydrated, and the best way to stay hydrated is to eat your water, as recommended  in Dr. Murad's best-selling book, The Water Secret. The cellular structure of water in fruits and vegetables will keep you hydrated for longer and won't strip minerals and nutrients from your body as quickly.

3. The oily part of combination skin is called what?

a. The T-Zone

b. The Oil Zone

c. The Breakout Zone

Answer: A

People with combination skin typically experience more oily skin in their T-Zone, the area of their face made up of the forehead, nose, upper lip and chin (the shape of a "T").

Customer Review

"I got this about two weeks ago and so far I love it! I only have to use a small amount and the way it makes my skin feel is amazing. I am beginning to notice an improvement in my blackheads and my pores seem smaller already. I look forward to seeing how much more this product is able to improve my skin!!!!" Kasey123, Tennessee

4. Cellulite is caused by what?

a. Loose Muscles

b. Weak Skin Cells

c. Fat

Answer: B

While many people believe that cellulite is caused by fat, cellulite begins with a weakness in the cells and skin structure that allows fat cells to migrate up toward the surface of the skin.

5. How many times per day should you wash your face?

a. Two

b. Three

c. As many times as it takes!

Answer: A

While it's true that every face is different, if you wash your face too many times per day you'll simply end up stripping away all of the necessary oil and moisture that keeps your skin healthy and hydrated. It's recommended that you only wash your face twice per day.

6. Redness and irritation on your face can be caused by what?

a. Dryness and dehydration

b. Rosacea

c. Environmental Factors

d. All of the above

Answer: D

All of the causes listed above can cause you to experience dry and red skin. If you do experience red and sensitive skin, consider Murad Redness Therapy® products to sooth and calm skin.

7. The first place that you may find wrinkles and the signs of aging appearing is …

a. Your forehead

b. Your eyes

c. Your neck

Answer: B

The skin around your eyes is thinner than the skin elsewhere on your face, and it also doesn't produce its own moisture like the rest of your face does. You're more likely to see your first wrinkles form around your eyes than anywhere else! Using an eye cream regularly can help to prevent and combat early eye wrinkles and fine lines.

8. How much skin cleanser should you use when you wash your face?

a. A dime to a nickel's worth

b. About a quarter of a cup

c. A tablespoon

Answer: A

You actually don't need a great deal of most skin care products to get the most out of them! With skin cleansers in particular, you don't want to use too much and end up irritating or stripping too much oil from your face. Stick to a dime to a nickel's worth in the palm of your hand.

9. The most common cause of skin irritation for men is…

a. Acne breakouts

b. Dry skin from outdoor exposure

c. Irritation from shaving

Answer: C

There's nothing gentle about running a razor over your face every day! Irritation from shaving can cause redness, bumps, blemishes and ingrown hairs.  Being a man can be rough!
