Step Two: Treat Your Skin: Learning the Murad Three-Step Skin Care System

Skin care can seem so complicated. There are so many skin care products, and they're all designed to do different things. However, once you've identified what your skin type is and what you're trying to accomplish with your skin regimen, it's pretty easy to break your daily routine down into three simple steps: cleanse, treat/tone and hydrate. We'll continue to provide you with more information on each of those phases of the Murad three-step system, but this month the special focus is on treating your skin and skin treatment products.

What is the "Treatment" Step?
The treatment step of your skin care regimen provides you with targeted care to treat your most pressing skin concerns. After you've cleansed your face, but before you've hydrated it, you've got a chance to  address your  skin concerns with the ingredients that can help resolve your concerns. What is a "skin concern?" It's an aspect of your skin that detracts from a youthful, healthy, flawless appearance. You may need an acne treatment if your skin is breakout prone. If your skin is oily but not prone to blemishes and breakouts, you may need a way to control oil on your T-Zone while also balancing your skin's overall tone. If your skin is starting to show the signs of aging, you may have several skin concerns, including: dryness, dullness, wrinkles, loose skin, age spots and sun spots and signs of aging around the eyes such as crow's feet and under-eye wrinkles.

How Do You Pick the Right Treatment Product?
Picking the right skin treatment isn't difficult, but it does require that you understand your skin type as well as what will work for your lifestyle. A good place to start is here at murad.com with the Murad Personalized Skin Care Evaluation. Preparing Your Skin for the Treatment Phase
To get the most out of your skin treatment, you'll want to take a few steps to prepare your skin. The first step is cleansing your skin. Removing surface dirt and oil is important for healthy skin. More importantly, you're removing the dead and dry skin from the surface so that your skin treatments can penetrate more deeply and work more effectively. You may also want to apply a skin toner before your treatment. A toner can help to open pores, hydrate skin and prepare your skin to accept and maximize your treatment products.

Recommended Product: Murad Essential-C Toner
Bitter Orange Flower and Coneflower Extract strengthen skin’s natural defense system while natural moisture factors gently condition and hydrate skin. Essential-C Toner re-establishes normal pH level so skin is receptive to treatment and gives environmentally stressed skin a refreshing, hydrating lift any time of day.

Customer Review
"I know that toner is an important part of the skin regimen. However, until recently I haven’t found toner that works since most toners make my skin dry. Essential C Toner works for me; it penetrates deeper to clean the skin without making it dry!" HBGal, Huntington Beach, CA

Should You Use Different Treatments for Night and Day?
One other thing you may want to keep in mind is that you may want to consider using separate treatment products for day time and nighttime. In the day, it's important that whatever you put on your face have an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 15. You'll also probably want to look for more lightweight products for use during the day that don't feel heavy and can be worn underneath makeup. One solution to consider is to meet all your skin care and makeup needs with  fewer products by using a true treatment cosmetic like Murad Hybrids®. During the night, when products have a chance to penetrate more deeply, you'll want to consider more intense treatments and  that take advantage of your body's natural restorative cycle and extra rich moisturizers to help your skin cope with a natural nighttime tendency toward dehydration.

Products with SPF are typically step 3 products that do not have as intense a treatment aspect as your step 2 choices which really boost your results.  Products such as Active Radiance Serum, Essential C Daily Renewal Complex and Complete Reform are really the heart of any regimen.

Recommended Product: Murad Hybrids Skin Perfecting Primer Matte Finish

Customer Review
"I love the MURAD Perfecting Primer!!! I do not like to wear any foundation but this product can cover as a foundation without [being] heavy and at the same time [moisturizing] and [lightening] my skin. I do not go out without using it even when I do not apply any other product on my skin." Elina, Santa Monica
