More Details on Karl Lagerfeld's Makeup Range for Shu Uemura! | Grazia Beauty

Earlier this week we gave you a sneak preview of the super cute beauty collection that French fashion veteran Karl Lagerfeld has developed in collaboration with Shu Uemura, and the teaser video that introduces the chic new cartoon character and face of the line “Mon Shu Girl”. Come on admit it… you’ve watched it at least three times already (our tally totals 5 so far!).

Sporting a jet-black bob, Karl’s signature high white collar and black tie, Mon Shu’s title is a play on the French term of endearment “mon chou”. For Shu Uemura she’s the perfect blend of “Japanese pop meets European chic” (ie. uber cute) and gives a nod to the fact that Karl use s Shu Uemura eye shadows to draw his fashion illustrations. Karl’s chic little dolly will appear on all the packaging the designer has created for the 17-stockkeeping-unit line, some of which also touts the seemingly hand-scrawled initials SUKL (for Shu Uemura Karl Lagerfeld) in the video. SUKL? OMG is what we’re saying in our excited Mon Shu haze!

So, now the beauty world are au fait with the face of the campaign, the big wigs at Shu Uemura have released a few more details about the range, which will launch in the UK in October.

Try to hush your squeals of excitement girls… As well as a dark purple gel eyeliner, the line boasts two pairs of false eyelashes. One which is made of red and black fabric, a first for the Japanese brand. Ooh la la!

Karl’s four lip shades are titled Mon Shu Red, Luxe Burgundy, Celebrity Beige and Parisienne Pink, while nail varnishes come in Karl Black, Shu Shu Red and Royal Beige. The cutest part? E ach pot will be sold with a strip of nail stickers featuring Mon Shu, so you can add a touch of Japanese manga to your manicure.

Dying to know more about Mon Shu and which of the brand’s signature products will get a Karl makeover? Check out the amazing sound bites below…

Karl on choosing the hues of the collection: “It was not easy to make a limited choice with all the things they have and do. It all was supposed to go with the doll I designed for them, the mood, the spirit. I wanted to invent my personal vision of a Japanese manga. An Eastern, perfect, mysterious, modern beauty.”

Ludovic Engrand, Shu Uemura’s expert makeup artist on the collection's exciting new eyelash curler:  “The curler has become a mythic product. It was especially customised for Karl Lagerfeld, with red silicon instead of black and, evidently, the presence of ‘Mon Shu,’ which hangs at the end of the eyelash curler.”

Ludovic Engrand on the red eye and cheek palette: “Red is a symbolic colour for Karl Lagerfeld, because he always dreamed of a red eye shadow to make his sketches. So they created it in this palette for him.”

Vincent Nida, Shu Uemura’s general manager worldwide on the collaboration: “Blending the borderless creativity of Karl Lagerfeld to the makeup expertise of Shu Uemura, we believe this collaboration will bring fun, excitement and modernity to the brand.”

And for all you beauty babes pondering whether the collection will become part of the permanent Shu Uemura portfolio…

“We enjoyed very much working with Karl Lagerfeld, so everything is possible,” said Nida. We’ll raise our office cup of builders tea to that! Oh and check out the collection in our gallery above!
