While just about every newspaper critic out there seems to be in a state of ecstasy following Madonna’s highly anticipated MDNA gig in London last night, on the ground it seems to be a very different story.
Reviews from fans at the concert have been far less flattering, with some branding it her “worst gig ever.” It seems that those who were left disappointed predominately complained about the lack of hits performed, the low volume at which they were belted out and they weren’t impressed with the “gothy” reworkings of her tracks either.
A massive criticism seems to be that she chose style over substance with one fan writing on Twitter:
“Lots of gushing reviews about #MDNA in Hyde Park last night. Personally I give it 5/5 for style and 2/5 for content. Very forgettable tbh”
Other negative comments included:
“It was the worst gig I have ever been to. I've been a big Madonna fan all my life but I will never buy one of her records again.”
And: “it was a huge disappointment. I didn’t recognise 95 per cent of the songs. Most people were bored.”
That’s not to say that no one enjoyed the show last night; plenty of fans at the gig were full of praise for Madge including a host of celebs who attended it including Kylie Mingoue, George Michael, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.
Jason Gardiner is an exception to them however; he Tweeted this morning:
“#MDNA was a disappointing variation on the same themes she always does. At 54 she is remarkable but sadly no longer relevant. 5/10”
Which just goes to show that you can’t please everyone, can you?
