We were quite excited when we saw the arrival of the trailer for the US version of one of our favourite shows, The Inbetweeners. However it seems as though our initial enthusiasm for the revamp is not shared by die-hard fans who have slated the US's efforts, provoking UK creator
Iain Morris to jump to its defence.
After reading some of the negative comments, Iain felt the need to address the US trailer haters with his diplomatic tweet, saying,
'I'm not going to comment on the American Inbetweeners a lot because I have to use Twitter for more interesting things like complaining, but the pilot director, Taika Waititi, has made consistently funny TV shows … Damon [Beesley] and I didn't have a lot to do with it because we w anted it to be different and American, and it is, I think in a positive way.'
As huge fans of the show and film we were interested to see how Taika would portray the cheeky chaps in the upcoming show. We admit certain areas such as Will's frustrated demeanor or Simon's statuesque, Bryll Cream ridden hair do' may not be too hard to imitate, however some fans have been discussing how smooth the cross-over of the original's more graphic, crude elements might fair over in the States. After seeing the trailer, some of the commenter's labeled Taika's effort as 'tame' and a slushy 'romcom'. Iain is adamant that fans shouldn't "pre-judge", he continued,
'The original will always exist. Always. Never going away…You might like it, you might hate it, but don't pre-judge it…Lastly, I know people are only angry about the US Inbetweeners cos they love the UK one, which is amazing really, and honestly appreciated.'
What do you heatworld citizens think? Are you going to tune in and hope for the best, or are you optimistic that the revamped American version will be just as hilarious? Get your comments in.
