Hedi Slimane Talks About YSL Returning To Couture And The Brand's New Logo!

The man hasn’t even had a fashion week show as the Creative Director at Saint Laurent Paris yet, but still the last few months have been filled with controversy for himself and the brand. After buyers saw his Resort collection we heard rumours of skinny jeans, hot pants, animal prints, silver and gold lame. At YSL? Yes really! Slimane has also moved Yves Saint Laurent’s design team to his hometown, LA, away from its historic address in Paris, and rather drastically renamed the brand as one of his first decisions in the new job.

And now the notoriously private designer has given an email interview to Vogue Paris, which comes out this Friday. One thing that crops up in this exciting interview is the prospect of Yves Saint Laurent once again going back into the world of couture - “ Haute couture is a legitimate subject for Yves Saint Laurent and could resume one day, the priority today is to revamp and redeploy the luxury ready-to-wear” says Slimane.

While many wonder how he will tackle this new world of womenswear (he was previously Creative Director at Dior Homme), but Hedi silences these critics with this rather cryptic gem further into the interview… “I approach this via a wardrobe codified to the extreme, almost ritualistic.”

We look forward to seeing the interview in full, as rumour has it we’ll see the first look at the brand’s redesigned branding – including a photo showing the Saint Laurent Paris name spelled across a square black box.
