Chanel Step Into The World Of Nail Art With Couture Manicure

Chanel Step Into The World Of Nail Art With Couture Manicure | Grazia Beauty

This week has already seen us lusting after Chanel’s new Rouge Allure lipstick shades, shown off in that super cool Makeup Confidential Film: Miroir Miroir. And now make up master and Chanel’s creative director Peter Philips has another trick up his sleeve, or on Chanel’s fingertips should we say.

That’s right folks, Chanel have embarked on their first fashion foray into the shiny, sexy world of nail art. While the brand have long been our port of call for the latest lacquer shades – the orangey hue ‘Holiday’ is sitting very nicely on our nails at the moment thankyouverymuch – so far the venerable French fashion house have stuck with block colours. No patterns, no messing.

Not anymore. Sashaying down the runway at this week’s Chanel’s Couture fashion show were models with rather fancy fingertips. Explaining the story behind the nail art, Phillips noted, “When we were playing around with the idea of doing a nail polish, we evoked the idea of using two shades on one nail.”

Just checking you heard right. That’s not one, but two shades for one brand spanking new Chanel look. Giving the traditional French manicure a touch of modern pizzazz, Phillips used a discontinued chrome colour, launched in 2007, to outline the entire nail bed (not just the usual tip), which had already been coated with two coats of May, a melon varnish from the Spring 2012 show. A little bit fruity and a tad futuristic too!

Paired with silver-lined, forties-era hair nets for a look Karl Lagerfeld as hinted as ‘new vintage’ – ‘something that could last’, we’re itching to give this chic looking mani a go. We’re not sure about you but we might give the hairnets a miss though.
