Bye Bye Supermodels! Lanvin's Autumn Winter 2012 Campaign Uses 'Real' Women

We’ve just seen a glimpse of Lanvin’s autumn winter campaign Steven Meisel, and guess what? There are no models in it! Alber Elbaz has picked a smorgasbord of ladies-not models, real women including a waiter, a milliner and a recent U.S. immigrant - aged 18 to 80 to show off his winter 2012 collection.

The pic we’ve managed to get our greedy paws on shows a rather glamorous lady reclining on a chair, amidst a messy salon filled with accessories, a scruffy little pooch and various rolls of luxurious golden fabrics. The model wears the same red ankle boots and antique style pendant as worn with the ruched black and white mini-dress in the runway show but without those bright red opera gloves. Holding a selection of handbags presumably to go with her ensemble, we recognise that look of dressing fatigue on her face (though if we were to pick, we’d go for that delicious yellow silk clutch. Just saying!)

Elbaz told WWD “I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and seeing how they look on different ages, different sizes. It felt like a crazy family, and I like that.”

We have to say though, Elbaz being located in Paris, and heading up one of the chic-est most ladylike brands going, his selection of non-model models was always going to be one of the most elegant line-up of “real women” we’ve ever seen, not a typical cross section of that age group for sure!

The ads will begin to appear in the September issues of the monthly magazines, while we can expect to see the campaign video (remember how great the dancing models were last winter?) on August 21st. Expect it to go viral once again!
